September 2014

Well another month gone and now getting towards darker nights and Christmas.

We have been very lucky at the moment as the farmer has not put cattle in our field which means we have been doing flying most times we have turned up.
Can i just say please take your rubbish home with you and keep all field gates closed or as we find them.

The last round of the competition (100s) was cancelled due to weather but has now been re-dated for November 23rd so please attend if you can, and this month we had the BMFA Nationals and South Lincs Soarers did the 100s competition and the scores was up and down all through the day, i shall post them on here when i receive them, they should be very interesting.

It is always nice to see members down at the club field with new models and test flights etc so please keep bringing them, some members have too many toys lol

Any way not much to say this month but i would just like to thank Neville Warby for coming down early to the club field and getting flying.

I think that's about it for this month so catch you all next month.

Also i would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk

If any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.

Thanks Jason. (Club Pilot).

July 2014

Here we are again, June has been and gone now it's July

The month started out windy and the club field had cattle in, that was early in the month, then cattle moved in to the next field and the weather changed to warm and we was away flying.
We have been getting down the field more or less all the club members.
Myself and Neville have been going down that hour or 2 earlier just to have a chat before we get set up & Colin has been there supporting (shame not flying) but all in all it's good to see everyone.
Think i had a good flight towards the end of the month of just under 20 minutes, not record breaking but still good for me and that's with my 100" Tracker which i lost last month, my times have been getting better with it now i have sorted the launch out.

Also some of the club members have been flying electric gliders, which are far more easier than setting a winch up but is it true gliding some may say yes but other may say no, but who cares flying is good in any form, the more the better .

I have only done 1 or 2 competitions this season as due to work it's too much for me to be honest, but i know South Lincs Soarers has been attending and doing well, which is very good.

I would just like to say a BIG THANKYOU to Neville for coming down the field early with me to get even more flying in (good ole Nevile :)

I think that's about it for this month so catch you all next month.

Also i would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk

If any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.

Thanks Jason. (Club Pilot).

HAPPY SOARING

June 2014

Well everyone what a month June started out to be with me losing my Tracker on a nice thermic Sunday morning.
This is what happened...
I launched myself off the winch well tried to, it pinged off very early leaving me floating about looking hard for lift and yep i found some which whisked me up very high.
Nearly a hour has passed when as i was doing a thermal turn i lost sight of it for a few seconds which was enough for me to lose sight, calling my other club members as soon as i realised not even they could see it and i had full down trim. Nothing dropping any where, we stood there for about 30 minutes just looking up and nothing, so we packed up and i drove around the area for another hour and still nothing so we went home.
We was down the field 2 weeks later just getting ready to set up when a Land Rover pulled up asking if anyone has lost a glider, we said yes and he came back with " I've found 1 in my field, it's a Yellow 1" yep it was mine, so me and another club mate followed the farmer to his field and there is was, what a sight, we could just see the rudder poking out the Rape field, my next thoughts was damage and how much, i walked to collect it and guess what it was undamaged, just a little slit in the rudder, Lucky ....... Very Lucky

So just running on the back of this can all club members please make sure you name or contact details on your model somewhere please, also if you are flying very high, come down a bit and see if you can do it again, it's more fun and also there is NO flying at any of the club fields if your on your own, there must be at least 2 members or persons.

I did not make the competitions this month due to work, and i don't think i will be making July's either.

The main club field has been cut and cattle free towards the end of this month which was good and we also had some very nice flying mornings and evenings with me and Neville flying (Thanks Neville).

Also i would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk

If any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.

May 2014

Well what can i say, again another month has now gone and still not much flying done. It's all down to the weather with this hobby and with the cost of some of the gliders it's just not worth pushing your luck.

I never made this months competition because i never had a car to get myself there, nor to Radioglide, but i am now back on the road with a smaller car. I don't think i will be attending next months competition (June) either to be honest.

At the moment the club field is still free of cattle but the grass is very long making it hard to walk in and set up.

I have also received my certificate from the BMFA for the A in silent flight after 25 years of flying.

Please check our website for more flying days and times and will look forward to June's flying.

Also i would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk

If any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.

April 2014

Well everyone the club this month has been very busy flying as much as the nice weather would let us and we were getting some fantastic flight times up to 40 minutes per flight. At the moment the farmer is being very nice and leaving a field free for us but by the looks of it not for much longer, but we shall see.

It was the first round of the Mike Lucas 100" competitions this month and South Lincs Soarers were the organisers and to be honest some of the club members did well in it. The weather was ok but towards the end the rain was coming down and the last slot of the day was flown in the rain.
Just like to say thank you to everyone who came.

On our flying days most of our club members are coming to fly which is nice to see and it's good to catch up with everyone.
I built a Cambrian Elan 100" glider for something to do. It's good to have a build and it was test flown yesterday (30-04-14) Was nice and relaxing, also i got my A certificate for flying Silent Flight so i was pleased about that.
I hand towed which i have never done before which was very interesting and we hand towed the Elan up as well.

Please check our website for more flying days and times and will look forward to Mays flying.

Also i would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk

If any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.

March 2014

Another month has gone and still not much flying done as a club due to weather, members being busy, members being ill, but we did have 2 competitions which sadly i had to miss the first 1 due to a strained shoulder which locked itself out for almost 2 weeks.

We are planning to fly Wednesday evenings now ( weather permitting ) which will start in April and now that the clocks have gone forward 1 hour it's light till 8 ish now, so keep a watch on the website for all updates on flying.

I did make the 2nd competition which was on Mother's Day but it was very nice to get flying again after not flying myself for almost 3 months. My 1st flight was very poor but i was just getting the feel of it again and over the day i did get better. I am looking forward to the next competition as all competitors will be flying 100s gliders and it will be new Trackers against older Trackers against wooden gliders ...... Please check our competition page for updates.

Also i would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk

If any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.

February 2014

Well what can i say the weather has put a stop to most things so far this year and flying, will it ever get better, we have a competition this weekend coming fingers crossed weather changes and the sun comes out.

No club flying this month also due to weather.

But i think i can say for all our club members we are looking forward to the nice weather.

If any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.

January 2014

The beginning of a new year and the weather has put a holt to must of our flying, this months competition got cancelled and we have only flown twice at the club field.
Also the cattle has come back to the club fields as well only leaving 1 free for the time being.

I must say when we did manage to fly at the club fields they were most enjoyable and we are looking forward to the summer sun and big thermals to get up lifted for this season.

Looking forward to February competition and fingers crossed it goes ahead as planned but looking doubtful at the moment i must say .....

We have another club pilot nearly ready to test fly his new Tracker ready for the 100" competitions in April. This season 100" competitions is going to be very interesting with new against old models, molded agaist wooden hummm ......

Also i would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk and i am looking forward to the next.

December 2013

Last month of 2013 and Christmas has been and gone and now we are getting ready for the New Year. Also started getting back into flying at our club field, which at the moment has no cattle in which is very good.

The competition this month was very interesting as i missed the 1st round because my Rudder horn snapped and the pushrod was pushing nothing, quick fix with the Rudder off my other Tracker, but flying i did not perform much better, so the next 1 i am going to push things further.

SLS did manage to get some flying down at the club field the Sunday just gone (29-12-13) short flight times to start ( 4 - 5 minutes ) but by the time we were packing up a few of us got near on 12 minutes per flight which is very good for this time of year and when we set up there was a hard frost on the ground. Also a few members brought a few interesting electric models down to the field which was good to watch and made a change, i did like the Ghoul which a member built from a plan.

I am looking forward to 2014 and the competitions and hoping to do more gliding with the SLS group, and scale gliding.

I would personally like to Thank Neville Warby .

Also i would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk and i am looking forward to the next.

November 2013

Well Another month has passed and not long before Christmas now Ho Ho Ho

Flying on Wednesday evenings has been put on hold till further notice due to darker nights

Sadly we still have not done much flying with the nights getting darker and the winter weather setting in it's been hit or miss all round, but we did have 1 flying morning this month which was Sunday (17-11-13) and yes it was must enjoyable i must say.

We had 2 competitions this month with myself doing well in the first  competition (100") by beating Alan Morton to take 2nd place, but the second competition i did not do so well by coming 2nd from last (I will get you next Comp Alan) and it was nice to catch up with Geoff Stubbs in his model shop as i needed a few bits and tips
If you need any bits Geoff Stubbs Models is in Oundle and Geoff is very helpful.

We are hoping for better weather so we can get flying down our club field and get some practice in and get Colin A flying ready for next season (Hello Colin).

I would personally like to Thank Neville Warby .

Also i would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk and i am looking forward to the next.

October 2013

Yes here we are again, another month has passed and getting more nearer to Christmas.

Sadly we have not done too much flying, (well once i think this month) but that's been down to the weather and towards the middle of the month the sheep have returned to the main flying field. I did enjoy the chin wag we had 1 Thursday evening down at the field though.
This months competition was cancelled due to weather, i think it was high winds and overcast with rain clouds, but next months looks like it's going to be on which is good.

I have a new Tracker to test fly, and a aileron version to test fly which should be interesting, but the aileron version is for sale.

There's not a lot more to say to be honest, just hope all the other club members are all ok and well and ready for the competition.

Thanks Jason (Club Pilot)

September 2013

Another month has gone by and it's time for this months club monthly, and it will soon be Christmas.

We had a delivery of new Trackers (100" gliders) from Rick Lloyd who gave us a good deal on them. I think everyone was pleased with the Trackers as i have had no comments from the people who brought them up to now.

We had the Peterborough and Spalding gliding club open weekend which South Lincs Soarers attended and displayed some of our models ( Thanks Everyone. ) We had the BMFA flight simulator there which was a big success with the PSGC members, i also had a go on it and i would recommend it.

We still had the sheep in our flying field at the beginning of the month but they got moved out by the 2nd week freeing up the field but then the weather changed and put a stop to us again. Towards the end of the month we were back flying, weather not perfect but good enough to flying in and get some pratice. Wednesday evening flying the time has been moved forward to 4pm by some of the members because of the darker nights are coming, but i would think in another few weeks that will stop as well.

Unfortunately i did not make this months competition due to work reasons but i was told it was very interesting and if you would like to read the write up please check Glass Flight or the competition page on here, i am hoping to make this months by the way.

Colin A ( club member ) bring your Tracker and we will get you flying with it.

I would personally like to Thank Neville Warby for coming to fly on Sunday morning, although windy, still good to be out flying.

I would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk and i am looking forward to the next.

If any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.

August 2013

The months are passing so quick now it doesn't seem to be 5 minutes since i was thinking plus writing the July's monthly and now a month on, which also has been interesting.

I have made a few changes to the website as you can see we now have a "Build Projects" & "RC Reviews" which i must say i'm not 100% sure with a review page but we shall see .....

The club field has been hit or miss towards the tail end of August because of live stock which belongs to the farmer has put a halt on flying for the time being but i am sure a field will come free soon, it's that time of year sadly but we have had it good up to now but please keep a watch on the Club News for up to date info.

It was the last round of the Mike Lucas competitions this month and we had a good turn out as a club with 5 members and Colin A who helps us out (Thanks Colin) made us a 6 man team, which we all did well in and please checkout the results on Glassflight.

We also had the BMFA 2013 Nationals which we flew the 100" competition on the Saturday and i must say i flew like the weather very poor and the rain did not help only having 2 rounds in the competition, i came last but we did have a member take 3rd and won Bronze (Well Done Graham) with his old school wooden model. Yes i came last and managed to win a lottery scratch card but that too was not a winner
I would like to thank everyone who came to take part in the Nationals and for the organisers of it.

I have also done a video of me flying my Tracker from the club field which you can watch in the video page on this website all in all it was a about 14 minute flight,it just give new members a idea of what goes on and how things work and i am hoping to do another 1 very soon ...

I would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk and i am looking forward to the next.

If any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.

July 2013

Well another month has gone by and the website is working and getting the views so that's good.

July was the start of the heat wave or is it called summer and some days where just too hot to do anythink but it's nice to have the heat at last.

We had 2 competitions back to back with only 2 of the SLS team attending the 1st competition, but we got through it,and the 2nd 1 was a lot better with a near full team and Simon V coming top out of our group.

The order for some Trackers was placed by members of the group so looking forward to getting them, and should be a very interesting 100" competition next season. I have to say while on about the Trackers i would recommend 1 to anyone who still flies 100" gliders they are very nice to fly and the modifications look good and they float very nice. ( Thanks to Rick Lloyd for the Tracker deal ) . Please check Ricks website www.litefliteuk.yolasite.com

Also well done to Colin A for buying a new Tracker and getting it ready for the display in October and yes it does fly very nice aswell. I am looking forward to seeing his modified West Wings ( Lancer ) model fly.

There has also been talk of having a club evening or morning getting our A or B certificates by the club examiner, just waiting for the right weather.

Also we have had a couple of problems with our battery packs in our gliders so can all member please check there batteries and wires/plugs before flying.

I would just like to say thank you to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk and i am looking forward to the next.
Hope people like the website and if any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.

Thanks Jason. (Club Pilot).

June 2013

What a month June was from nice weather, new members, crashing, competitions and websites, where do i start...
The weather which was nice for the 1st week then the wind came and put a stop on some club flying. We also had a new member join the club (Colin) who has made a good start with buying the best rc gear on the market and making progress with getting up with us all.
It's nice to see new members coming into gliding as i don't think there is many of us about now days.
Sadly my new Tracker had a accident in regards battery pack which had a dead cell and gave up on my 3rd flight and hitting the ground but did not do that much damage.
Neville is in the repair shop sorting it out for me (Thanks Neville)
As stated in club rules CHECK AND DOUBLE CHECK .
We had 2 competitions in June and althought i did well in 1 sadly not so good in the last 1 as the model i was flying was not quite set up right and the wing is slightly different from other gliders (under camber). But looking forward to the next competitions and having fun with the SLS group while flying.
SLS website which was built over the last weekend in June was a good idea but i never got things 100% right and would like to apologise to the members concerned (Big Sorry) but now i have tweaked it i think it's getting there.
I would just like to say thankyou to the people who organise the competitions www.glassflight.co.uk and i am looking forward to the next.
Hope people like the website and if any of the SLS members would like to have there write up in club monthly please email me or get in contact.
